How did you get the floppy to boot ? In the same place you should be able to find the instructions. That's the point. You have a CD, and a computer with a blank hard drive and CD-Rom but it can't boot from the CD (older computer). You have no way to create any boot disk, what do you do? You need to get a DOS boot

I sounds to me as if you have the kernel on the hard disk and you're trying to boot lilo from the floppy and use the HD as the boot device. From what I have observed, it seems that lilo knows where the boot image physically is on the disk. It needs to know this to avoid having an entire file system in it.
